Casa da Reina - Tomiño

|
4 En-suite Bedrooms
The Origins of the House
Casa da Reina is a beautiful rural guest house full of history as it used to belong to the last Portuguese Consul that lived in Galicia. It is a colonial style manor house built in 1865 that keeps intact most of the original features and the feeling of the high standard way of living of the old diplomatics is still visible all around the property.
The house was bought by the Orona family nearly a century ago and since them, the owners have been restoring and working in detail in the interior decoration and garden design.
The Gardens
You will be surprised to discover a botanical garden with a stunning design with unique water features, stone sculptures, more than 30 bonsais, tropical plants, fishes, water turtles, and even a small church. All of this is the hand work of the owner Severino that for more than 12 years, since his retirement, has been dedicating his whole life and pasion to the garden and the restoration of the house.
The Location
Casa da Reina is located in a small hamlet by the famous Vilachan Vineyard Mountain and only a 10 minutes walk to the town centre of Tomiño.
Tomiño is a small town located in the Valley of the River Miño on the Portuguese border with a mild climate in the winter and hot in the summer which allows the growing of tropical plants, wine and vegetables.
Its neighbor town of Tui sparks with its beautiful cathedral, hill-fort and cobble stone streets overlooking the river Miño and the hill-fort town of Valenca do Miño in Portugal. Tui´s natural setting, Monte Aloia Natural Park is without a doubt one of its biggest attractions.
Following a straight road for 15 minutes along the River Miño and always with Portugal on sight towards the coast, we will arrive to La Guardia (River Miño´s estuary). One of the best-known places in La Guardia is undoubtedly Monte Santa Tegra. No one who visits this spectacular spot, with the remains of a roman village and the finest views of the River Miño Estuary and the neighboring landscapes of Portugal, will come away disappointed.
Beaches
Along the river Miño there are white sandy river beaches, but only 20 minutes you can find the beaches of La Guardia and Baiona.
The Views
From the windows and balconies of the house you can view the spectacular river Miño valley, the mountains of Portugal and the vineyards of Vilachan.
